The Open Stacks Book Club

The book club is open to anyone who enjoys the reading of good books and the discussions they inspire, exposure to new ideas and differing viewpoints, and an opportunity to socialize with other book lovers.

Our next book is Shakespeare Saved My Life: Ten Years in Solitary With the Bard, by Laura Bates. “It is a 2013 memoir from Laura Bates about her experience teaching the works of Shakespeare to prison inmates. It focuses in particular on the story of Larry Newton, who is solitary confinement. He responds profoundly to the lessons and begins to help Bates write prison workbooks on Shakespeare and becoming a peer to her on the subject.
We will meet on Friday, Sept. 3 at the home of Bill Bogdan and Carl Ward “live” with a Zoom option for those who want to join from their home.  We gather at 7 pm and begin discussion at 7:30.  Bring a beverage and snack to share. Please let us know if you plan to attend and we will send the Zoom link as well as directions to Bill and Carl’s home.
The Classics Book Club

This book club is on temporary hiatus until Fall.  A schedule will be announced soon. This club reads and discusses great literary works that deal with religious and spiritual issues like, Dante’s Divine Comedy, Dostoevsky’s Brothers Karamazov, Thoreau’s Walden, and the Confessions of St. Augustine.

Please join us if you are interested in stimulating discussion and social interaction.
All are welcome!

Coffee Hour

The Christian faith not only involves a relationship and communion with God but also with fellow believers. Mount Auburn Presbyterian Church supports this not only through our weekly worship and education but also through other activities. Each Sunday after worship many members and friends gather in the Social Room for Coffee Hour. This time also provides an opportunity for people to sign up for volunteer opportunities and other programs and activities.

Mount Auburn Nights Out

Our faith community enjoys being in each other’s company. We take advantage of our local cultural scene for the many and varied opportunities that are presented for outings as a group. We call these get-togethers “Mount Auburn Nights Out”. Theatre, concerts, the zoo, children’s performances, he ballet are terrific occasions to mingle together.  We’ve been off schedule with COVID 19, but hope to resume gatherings again soon.
