Katie LePage was a beloved member of the Mount Auburn Choir for many years, and a great gift to all of us. We greatly miss her musical skills and cheerful outgoing personality.
She was born in Toledo, Ohio and moved with her family to Oak Harbor, Ohio, when she was 12. She later met and eventually married her husband Peter there. Both graduated from Bowling Green University with degrees in English. After Peter completed his doctoral work, they moved to Cincinnati where Katie taught Junior High English in several schools until her two sons, David and Jesse, were born.
Later, when her sons were in high school, she began working as a children’s book seller. At the Blue Manatee Children’s Bookstore in Oakley, she became well known and loved as a guitar playing storyteller, where she had a great following among children of all ages. She had such an impact there that the section of the store where she traditionally performed her wonderful stories is dedicated to her, and is named the “Katie LePage Corner.”
For the last several years of her life, Katie battled multiple myeloma, a blood cancer which was finally the cause of her death in 2017. However, when she was first diagnosed, she chose to be part of a study of new treatments for this terrible disease. In the end, these treatments extended her life by a few years, and made it possible for her to travel around the country and share her story with others suffering from this same disease, giving them hope for an eventual cure.
