Harriet Tubman

March 1822 – March 10, 1913

A woman of uncommon courage and shrewdness, she escaped from slavery, then risked her life and liberty by repeatedly returning to slave states to escort approximately 300 others to freedom in the North.

". . . I know of no one who has willingly encountered more perils and hardship to serve our enslaved people than [Harriet Tubman]." -Frederick Douglass
