As we reach the end of Auburn Avenue (turns into Sycamore Street as it goes down the hill), we take a right onto Edinburgh Avenue.  To the left we find some nice views of the downtown Cincinnati skyline as well as the historic Over-the-Rhine area.  Over-the-Rhine got its name from the numerous German immigrants who settled in that area during the 19th Century.       Here is another view where you can see the Cincinnati City Hall in the upper left hand corner and Music Hall to the far right.  Music Hall is home to the Cincinnati Symphony, the Cincinnati Opera, and the May Festival Chorus.

Proceeding on Edinburgh Avenue we encounter at its end Jackson Hill Park.  Taking a left we find the Main Street Steps that seem to go on and on.  Steps like this can be found all over the city with all its hills.  This series of steps is the longest and connects Mount Auburn with Over-the-Rhine.  The Main Street area in Over-the-Rhine is currently undergoing a revival as a popular night spot with music clubs, taverns, restaurants, and microbreweries.

If you are interested in more information about the steps of Cincinnati there is a book called Walking the Steps of Cincinnati written by Mary Anna DuSablon.  Her book contains walking tours in various Cincinnati neighborhoods including the more notable series of steps.

We leave the Main Street Steps (that will be a tour for another day) and return to Auburn Avenue where we proceed north.  Here we find the William Howard Taft National Historic Site at 2038 Auburn Avenue.  This is the house where William Howard Taft was born.  Taft later in life served as  President of the United States and as Chief Justice of the United States.  The Taft name appears throughout Mount Auburn including the Taft Elementary School and William Howard Taft Road (where Mount Auburn Presbyterian Church is located).
